Krav Maga Tactical Survival: Personal Safety In Action

“Krav Maga – Tactical Survival” is a book with a focus on social violence. The types of violence which occurs due to misunderstandings and social conflicts that result due to various social interactions. These types of incidents differ from those presented in “Krav Maga – Real World solutions to Real World Violence – which focused largely on premeditated types of aggression, such as street robberies and abductions etc., where an offender has a specific goal in mind that they are trying to accomplish e.g., take somebody’s wallet or other assets, or moving a person from one location to another specifically prepared one etc. Social conflicts can often be solved using non-physical solutions such as de-escalation and conflict resolution. This book whilst focusing on Krav Maga techniques also looks at the methods that can be employed to prevent an interaction turning violent.

Whilst the books primary focus is on dealing with social violence that occurs spontaneously the book also looks at some “attack progressions” that can occur where an assault or threat is made more complicated by the assailant e.g., in the first book escapes were shown when an assailant was holding a knife to the throat when standing behind. In “Krav Maga – Tactical Survival”, escapes from the same position are shown but include a) when the assailant is controlling the wrist of a hand, and b) when an arm is pinned behind by the assailant’s non-weapon hand/arm i.e., the threat has become more complicated.

Krav Maga Extreme Survival: Active Shooter, Carjacking & Home Invasion

“Krav Maga – Extreme Survival” looks at three less likely, but high consequence, types of violence: active shooter/killer scenarios, car-jackings and home invasions. Although these types of violence are fairly uncommon in the West compared with other types of violence e.g., street robberies and common assaults etc., they do occur and being prepared to deal with them, by both having the correct mindset and a knowledge of effective and proven techniques/solutions and tactics increases a person’s survival chances.

The section on active shooters comprised of a systematic review of over 350 research articles that had collectively looked at over 140 incidents. From this work, commonalities between events were looked at to derive “safe” assumptions that could be made when having to deal with an active killer event, regardless of setting e.g., school, place of worship, workplace etc. The book also looks at some of the key differences between the locations and settings of such incidents, such as the similarities between workplace shootings and college/university ones, and how these are closer in their dynamics between school and university campus shootings etc. Combined with this research the book provides instruction on how to tackle shooters – when alone or in groups – when evasion isn’t an option/possibility. This instruction comes direct from Israel, where for a time active shooter and killer incidents were the terrorists preferred weapon of choice.
